- Film is indoor-rated (IP31). It is not waterproof and not the tool for weather-exposed façades — that is Transparent Grid’s IP65 job.

The Honest Answer First
A transparent LED film screen costs US$740 to 2,220 per square metre for the film body (EXW Shenzhen). The range is wide because it is driven by one variable above all others: pixel pitch — the distance between LED dots, written as P5, P10, P20, and so on. Smaller pitch means denser LEDs, a sharper image, and a higher price per square metre.
The number you see on a datasheet is the screen body only. It does not include the LED controller, power and signal cabling, installation labour, or shipping and import duty. In most projects those add 10–25% on top. Budget on the total, not the m² headline.
LED film is cut to your exact glass and quoted per project. Glass size, pitch, brightness, whether the panels are curved or custom-cut, and order quantity each move the number more than a single “$/m²” headline would suggest. A fixed published price would be wrong for at least half the projects we quote. The ranges below are the honest reference — the line-item BOM you receive within 24 hours is the real number.

The rule of thumb is simple: pitch in millimetres ≈ minimum viewing distance in metres. If your viewers stand 6 metres back, P10 or P8 is fine — paying for P5 buys sharpness nobody can see from that distance. That one choice can swing the budget by 30–40%.

What Actually Drives the Price
Four things move the number, in rough order of impact:
- Pixel pitch. The single biggest lever. Going from P5 to P10 can cut the per-m² cost by roughly half, because the panel carries far fewer LEDs per square metre.
- Screen area. Film is priced per square metre, so cost scales near-linearly with area — but larger orders often unlock a better unit rate. MOQ on DOIT VISION film is no minimum, so small trial orders are possible.
- Customisation. Custom-cut panels, curved glass, and non-standard shapes add engineering time and lead time. Standard rectangular runs are the cheapest path.
- Brightness and configuration. The film spans 2,000–4,000 nits (P5 around 2,500). Higher brightness and upgraded controllers raise the BOM, but for interior glass the standard configuration is usually correct.
None of these are hidden surprises — a line-item BOM lists each one, so you can see exactly where the money goes before you commit.
Estimate Your Project Cost
Budgeting is a three-step sum. Worked example included.
Screen area (m²) = width (m) × height (m). A 6m × 3m window is 18 m².
Match pitch to viewing distance, then take that row’s price range from the table above.
Screen cost = area × price/m². Then add 10–25% for controller, cables, install, and shipping.
A 10m × 3m wall is 30 m² at P8 (~US$1,330/m²). The film body runs US$39,900. Adding controller, cables, install, and shipping brings the total to roughly US$44,000–50,000. The exact figure depends on destination, duty, and site conditions — confirmed in your line-item quote.
The Hidden Costs (Beyond the Screen)
The film body is the largest line item, but not the only one. Budget for these before you compare quotes, otherwise two suppliers’ “per m²” prices are not comparable:

The good news: because film is a self-adhesive sheet with no frame and no structural steel, install cost is lower than any framed transparent screen. A two-person crew installs roughly 20–30 m² per day, and the film adds almost no load to the glass.
Film vs Other Transparent Routes

- Do not over-buy pitch. If viewers stand 6–8 metres back, P10 renders as sharp as P6.25 does up close — and costs 30–40% less per m². Match pitch to viewing distance, not to a spec sheet.
- Use the film’s structural advantage. No steel frame, no glass replacement, no building permit in most retrofit cases. That is where film beats every framed screen on total installed cost.
- Keep it indoor. Film is IP31. If the glass faces weather, you either mount film on the interior face (glass acts as the weather barrier) or switch to Transparent Grid’s IP65 outdoor option — do not “weatherproof” film on-site.
- Standard rectangles ship fastest. Custom-cut panels and curved shapes add engineering time and lead time. Order the standard widths where the design allows.
- Compare total cost, not m² price. A lower per-m² quote can still cost more once controller, cables, and duty are added. Ask every supplier for the same line-item breakdown.
