With the development of LED display technology, more and more indoor LED vide display project has led to use 4K and 8K displays. But what are 4K and 8K display technologies?
What does 4K and 8K mean?
The terms 4K and 8K refer to the physical (horizontal) resolution of these screens when combined. 8K, also known as QUHD, has a resolution of 7680×4320 pixels. This is four times the resolution of 4K and sixteen times that of mainstream FHD. With normal eyesight, 8K provides a visual experience that is 4.3 times clearer.
The 8K resolution contains about 33 million pixels, making it four times the 8 million pixels of 4K. It is a digital video standard promoted by organizations like NHK, BBC, and RAI. One limitation of flat displays is their lack of depth. 8K addresses this by delivering realistic images with rich layers and natural 3D effects.
Mainstream 4K resolution, which includes but is not limited to 3840×2160 pixels( 3840 horizontal pixels and 2160 vertical pixels). In contrast, 8K UHD has double the pixels of 4K, resulting in four times the total pixel count.
The “K” in 2K, 4K, and 8K indicates the total number of video pixel columns. For example, 4K means 4000 columns of pixels, typically 3840 or 4096. Cameras for 4K resolution usually have a pixel count of 38402160 or 40962160.
The “P” in 720P or 1080P refers to the total number of video pixel rows. For instance, 720P has 720 rows of pixels, while 1080P has 1080 rows. The “P” stands for “Progressive,” indicating a progressive scan rather than an interlaced one.
Both 4K and 8K LED displays offer professional-grade image quality. However, to achieve full HD output, the source material must also be high definition. A typical 4K film can require about 200GB of storage, while streaming demands a download speed of 40 Mbps. An 8K video, even just one minute long, needs 194GB of space—20 minutes totals 4TB. As resolutions increase, so does the data needed. The shift from HD to 4K to 8K brings an exponential increase in video data.
For 8K LED displays ,Currently, the industry has developed COB LED displays.
COB Packaging Technology

COB stands for Chip-On-Board. This innovative packaging method differs from traditional SMD LED technology. In COB, you cover the silicon chip placement area with thermally conductive epoxy resin. Then, It directly mount the silicon chip onto the substrate. After thermal treatment, the chip securely bonds to the substrate. Finally, you can establish an electrical connection between the chip and substrate using wire bonding.

Advantages
Superior Protection
Conventional LED displays can suffer damage from impacts. This may cause pixel failures or display issues. COB technology improves this situation significantly. By embedding LED chips into PCB grooves and using epoxy resin, COB makes the LEDs more robust and protective.
Smaller Pixel Pitch
COB technology allows for smaller pixel pitches. While traditional SMD packaging limits pixel pitch to around P1.3, COB can achieve much smaller pitches, such as P2 and P0.9.
Lower Failure Rate and Longer Lifespan
COB packaging reduces light decay by optimizing heat dissipation. This lowers the failure rate and significantly extends the lifespan of LED displays.
DoitVision 8K COB LED Video Solution

Excellent Color Contrast Ratio
Doitvision Self-Developed COB LED Display Achieves Scale Production with Excellent Color Contrast Ratio.
While regular black SMD LEDs have a color contrast ratio of 5000:1, our advanced COB LED achieves up to 10000:1. You will love how vibrant our COB LED screens look.
Seamless Connection & 16:9 Aspect Ratio
With a gapless design, You can build LED screens with resolutions of 2K, 4K, or 8K while maintaining a 16:9 aspect ratio.
Extraordinary Visual Effects
We use superior PCB designs and high-quality LED materials. With refresh rates up to 3840Hz and grayscale from 14 to 24 bits, our displays provide stunning visuals. The light from our COB LEDs appears softer, enhancing your viewing experience.
Strong Modules for Secure Installation & Maintenance
You can easily clean dust or dirt from the LED modules with a duster. Our LEDs resist damage from minor collisions during installation and transportation.
Larger Viewing Angle and Lower Power Consumption
You ca get ultra-wide viewing angles over 170 degrees for striking visual effects. Plus, our power consumption is lower than traditional LED displays.
Higher Pixel Pitch
Thanks to innovative technology and our years of experience, we now produce extremely fine pixel pitches like P0.9 and P0.7. Soon, we will achieve pitches as small as P0.5.
Longer Lifespan
With flip chip technology and wireless packaging, our LEDs provide excellent heat dissipation. This means a reliable performance that lasts over 8 years.
Great Cabinet Design and 90° Angles
Our precise die-casting aluminum design makes installation and transportation easy. All components, including the LED module and power box, are front-accessible for service. You can assemble COB LED display cabinets at seamless 90° angles. This allows for stunning 3D visual effects or rectangular walls, enhancing the three-dimensional impact.
More Small-Pitch LED Video Walls Application
Our 8K LED displays are perfect for various applications, including meeting rooms, TV studios, exhibition centers, shopping malls, airports, and cinemas.
